Access and Facilities

At Woolwich Works, we're working hard to ensure that as many people as possible can access our site and our events.

Some of our programme may include certain assisted formats such as:

  • BSL Interpretation/Signed performances have a signer on stage describing the performance.
  • Captioned performances for D/deaf, deafened or hard of hearing audiences, with a screen on stage showing text relaying speech and describing the performance.
  • Audio-described performances for blind and visually impaired people, giving additional commentary on the action and visuals on stage, with headsets provided for those using the service.
  • Relaxed performances for visitors who may require a more flexible experience and environment, with free movement in and out of the theatre. These performances often contain reduced lighting and other effects, designed for anyone with an autistic spectrum condition, sensory or communication disorders and learning disabilities.
  • Chilled performances are similar to Relaxed performances with the same flexible experience and environment, but no changes are made to the show itself.

What to expect during a show

With most shows at Woolwich Works, you're welcome to pop out to get a drink from the bar or use the toilets.

During some moments of shows, our Front of House team may hold you from entering the space or going to your seat for a few moments so as not to disturb other audience members or the performers. This won't be for long though, and they'll let you know when you can go back to your seat.

Often shows have intervals - where we know this in advance you'll see the approximate timings in the Event Info section on the event webpage. This is the perfect time to grab a drink or snack and use the facilities.

We'll also add additional information like any content guidance, latecomers policy and rules around audience photography. If there are themes or subject matter you're concerned about seeing in a show, contact our team before you book at or 020 8035 8835.

Help Onsite & Useful Information

  • We have an automatic door at the main entrance that leads to the Visitors' Book Café and Workers' Bar, as well as the Main Space and our other performance and events spaces.
  • There’s level access throughout the building, including through to floor-level seats in the Fireworks Factory and into the Café. Our outdoor courtyard also has level access, but does have a stone chip surface covering the centre of the space. These should be navigable in a wheelchair, it's just worth noting as we appreciate everyone has different needs.
  • There are three lifts in the building to allow access to our studios and performance spaces on the first floor.
  • There are a number of accessible toilets throughout the building.
  • Gender-neutral toilets are available on the ground floor by our café.
  • We have a Changing Places room on the ground floor by our café, for the exclusive use of disabled people who need personal assistance to use the toilet. You can access the room by talking to our staff on the Welcome Desk, at our main entrance.
  • Baby changing facilities are located on the ground floor, in the main entrance lobby opposite the Welcome Desk.
  • Our café is dog-friendly, and guide and assistance dogs are welcome in all spaces. If you’d like to bring your guide dog to a performance, please let us know when booking and we can either book a space, or provide a staff member to look after your guide dog.
  • Strobe lighting is rarely used in our performances. Should an event feature strobe lighting, this information is available on the event page of our website and displayed at the auditorium entrance.
  • There are hearing assistance systems in the Fireworks Factory, smaller performance spaces, rehearsal studios, box office and bars.

  • There are braille and tactile wayfinding systems throughout the building.

Getting to Woolwich Works

The closest station to Woolwich Works is the Elizabeth line Woolwich Station, which is approximately a 3-minute walk from our front doors and has a lift, escalator and stairs from platform to street.

The DLR and National Rail Woolwich Arsenal Station is approximately 7 minute walk away on Woolwich New Road. The station has lifts, escalators and stairs from platform to street.

The Uber Boat by Thames Clippers RB1 service stops at the Woolwich (Royal Arsenal) pier just outside Woolwich Works, approximately 2 minutes from our front doors.

There's no on-site parking at Woolwich Works, so we encourage all visitors to make use of public transport.

If you require parking due to accessibility, the Heritage Centre Car Park is a pay-and-display car park 5 minutes walk from our front doors. Drop-offs can also be made outside the pedestrianised zone on Duke of Wellington Avenue or in the Heritage Centre Car Park, both are a 5 minute walk away.

For Blue Badge holders, the Heritage Centre Car Park is still pay-and-display, but badge-holders are permitted to park on the roads around Woolwich Works including New Warren Lane (SE18 6NF) and Duke of Wellington Avenue (SE18 6SS), and in the bays outside the Royal Arsenal Concierge on Artillery Square (SE18 6FR).

Please ensure your vehicle does not cause an obstruction and your Blue Badge is clearly displayed, with the time clock showing the arrival time.

Standing Events

Some of our events will be standing, meaning the space is set up for people to stand or dance around to the music. There will usually be some unreserved seating in the space as we’re aware not everyone will want to be on their feet the whole time.

If you’re unable to stand for a show, you can select ‘I’m unable to stand for long periods (for standing events)’ during booking, or write in your own request for seating. Our team will make sure there are seats saved for you with your name on in the space.

Standing events are generally a relaxed atmosphere, and you’re welcome to come in and out to the bar during the show. We definitely encourage a good dance – but please do be considerate of those around you!

Wheelchair Positions

We have multiple wheelchair positions in each performance space.

As the Fireworks Factory has level access from street to seat, wheelchair users can book into any table, although we’d advise booking in to our recommend wheelchair positions as these have been selected for optimum views and accessible routes around the tables and chairs in the space. You can see the recommended wheelchair positions by selecting ‘I’m a wheelchair user’ in your customer account to unlock the fixed positions. Other performance spaces on the first floor, including Beanfeast, are accessible by lift and have level access.

Many of our events are seated, and the layout of seats will be different in each performance space.

In the Fireworks Factory, our biggest space, seats are usually laid out as a mix of cabaret-style tables on the flat floor, and raked seating banks. Cabaret tables are circular and seat four with loose chairs, and are closest to the stage at floor-level.

Seating banks are further back and raked, so they offer great views of the stage. Our seating banks are made up of padded leather bench seats, with ledge tables and lamps giving a welcoming atmosphere to the large space.

In Beanfeast, one of our smaller spaces, seating layouts are usually cabaret-style or theatre-style with all seats at floor-level. Cabaret-style has rows of cabaret tables, which are circular and seat four with loose chairs. Theatre-style has rows of seats joined together. There are tall (poseur) tables positioned at the back with high stools, for a clearer view of the stage. There is usually an aisle down the left hand side of the space in both setups.

In other performance spaces, seating layouts are adaptable and will usually be made up of loose chairs.

There are two steps up between each row, alternating shallow and deep, and a step down into the seat row.

There are no handrails up the steps.

You'll find the row letter on the front of the steps, and the seat number on the tables.
