Ruby Rushton "Two For Joy" in full: special anniversary performance
Tenderlonious and Woolwich Works present One of the leading, most forward thinking and prolific bands to emerge from London’s thriving jazz sceneThe Tenderlonious-led quartet, Ruby Rushton, has been at the forefront of the UK jazz scene since their debut, Two For Joy, in 2015. This album is credited with introducing a new generation to jazz music in the UK. Their music is deeply rooted in the spiritual concepts of jazz heroes like John Coltrane and Yusef Lateef, while also adopting influences from hip-hop, Afrobeat, bebop, jazz-funk, and the sounds of the UK underground. In 2019, the band released their fourth and most successful studio album to date, Ironside.
In 2020, they continued their prolific streak by following up Ironside with two sell-out 7” singles, Yardley Suite/Overture 1 and Sun Khosi/Chrysalis, the latter of which was described by Clash Magazine as 'an absolute inspiration, an afrobeat-tinged jazz stepper that exudes life, optimism, and purpose. Another piece of forward-thinking jazz music from Ruby Rushton, who somehow manage to sound both innately classic and future-minded at the same time'. In 2021, the band made waves with the Jazz FM and Gilles Peterson lauded EP, Gideon’s Way, which led to high-profile festival slots and performances at the likes of We Out Here Festival, Ronnie Scott’s, Footprints, and Istanbul Jazz Festival.
