Not many musicians can boast having such a crucial role in music history, from their beginnings to contemporary experiments. That's why we are more than honoured to welcome Bukky Leo, supported by the mind-blowing energy of his band, Black Egypt, to Woolwich. They will present you with an infusion of the West African and UK music scene.

Bukky is a referential character when it comes to the development and diffusion of styles like afrobeat, afro-jazz and acid-jazz. His career spans five decades and has grown and flourished by treasuring the example and experience of greats like Fela Kuti and Tony Allen.

More recently, together with Gilles Peterson, he was one of the architects of the acid-jazz movement. Bukky and his musicianship also helped to reshape the contours of afro-jazz, refining them with London accents.

To attend one of his performances is something more than just experiencing the performance of a remarkable saxophonist, it is to engage first-hand with music history.
