Born in Woolwich in 1961 Gary Drostle has become an international award-winning artist specialising in large scale architectural murals including the unique and ancient art of mosaic. From his studio in Thamesmead using tiny pieces of hand-cut glass, marble and ceramic Gary has created architectural artworks around the world including for many UK towns, London Underground and major commissions in the United States. Through nearly 40 years of his artistic career Gary has never been far from his Woolwich roots and his work shows the considerable influence of his mother, a dressmaker and potter who taught in Woolwich and his father, a staunch Trade Unionist in the Royal Docks.

In this talk Gary will look back at those beginnings and chart some of the highlights of his career to date.
