Acosta Dance Foundation

Carlos Acosta created the Acosta Dance Foundation (ADF) in 2011 – inspired as he was, by his own life experience, which took him from a disadvantaged neighbourhood in Havana to becoming one of the most talented dancers of his generation. Carlos’ passion is to enable others to achieve the same success and reach anyone wishing to study and progress in dance and ballet. Up to now, the Acosta Dance Foundation has been able to achieve this through creating easy access to dance for anyone in the community, marrying the artistic excellence of the Acosta Danza Academy in Cuba, the renowned Acosta Danza Company, and now, the opening of the new Acosta Dance Centre at Woolwich Works, London in September 2023.

All three areas of the Foundation’s work aim inspire others from local communities to make positive life choices and achieve transformational change through the power of dance. The Acosta Dance Centre hosts most of ADF's charitable activities including the Acosta Advanced Training Hub (The UK’s first free pre-professional dance training programme) and is set to welcome creatives from around the world as part of the Carlos Acosta Choreographic Fellowship and Foundation Residency programmes. Their Community Outreach Programme has delivered Cuban workshops to numerous schools in the Borough and seeks to empower youth through dance.

The centre holds regular dance classes and workshops open to the public and for all levels teaching everything from Afro-Cuban dance with live percussion, Salsa, Contemporary, Ballet and more!
